Months ago I created a blog and promptly lost it. Or lost my password. Actually, just didn't know what I was doing and couldn't access it. Which really annoyed me, that I couldn't figure out how to get into it to post, so I sulked for 6 months or so, but now I'm coming around and ready to try again.
What I like about January. Snow. Skiing. Hot cocoa and mini marshmallows. Putting away clutter and getting my life organized. Feetie pajama's. The quality of the air -- crisp and cold. Warm, glowing light in the evenings. Late night soaks in the hot tub with my sweetie.
I used to really dislike winter, until recently. Mostly it was the cold that I found unpleasant.
I'm a lot more in synch now with nature, with the rythms and cycles of growth and I understand winter as a period of dormancy, which I have a new appreciation for. This mostly is something I've tuned into through gardening, working the same little plot of soil for several years now, and watching the same trees, vegetables and flowers bud and bloom and grow and go dormant year after year.
Last week I placed my seed order with High Mowing Seeds, which is an excellent source for organic seeds. Once again I bought more varieties of vegetables than I'm likely to have room to plant, which is easy to do when faced with so many interesting options! I'll try growing edamame for the first time this year - I could eat a bowl of steamed edamame with every meal and never get sick of them, they're about the best vegetable in the world.
